Future Implications

For this post, I would like you to comment on what you think the future of HR is in organizations. A few questions to think about are: Will HR departments become stronger within organizations?, How will outsourcing and globalization affect HR?, Which issues do you think are the most important for the future? Please do not limit yourself to just the questions and information in the postings. You may, and should, incorporate any of the other issues and ideas we've talked about in class. You may also do outside research. I have included some useful links for more information and you can also look on the library website to search databases for articles relating to HR.

Outsourcing

Outsourcing is a big issue in businesses today. There are many reasons an organization may choose to outsource and it is becoming a very controversial issue. One of the main reasons companies outsource is to cut costs. What are other reasons a company may choose to outsource? What are your opinions on the topic?

Improving Productivity

Improving productivity should be one of the main objectives for any organization. It is a question of how to get more out of current employees and it does not have an easy answer. I believe that developing leadership capabilities of employees could help out a lot. It would allow employees to take the initiative to develop new ideas and put them into action. Also, laying out organizational goals to the employees could help them be more productive. If employees don't know why they're doing their job and what their goals are, they aren't going to be as likely to do well for the company. What do you think companies could do to increase their productivity?

Training and Development

Another important issue is training and development. An organization can hire the most talented workers in the world, but without the right training they will still come up short. Individuals must be trained to work with company policies, so that goals on both the individual and organizational level can be met. Many companies do not work to continually develop their workers. Training is an ongoing process and a company must work to help employees learn and develop new ideas. Training is becoming increasingly more important since new issues in technology and globalization keep coming up in everyday business. Do you think companies will start spending more on training and development? What are your ideas on why training and development are important?

New ideas in Recruiting

Many people are now saying that recruiting the best and brightest employees should be the main focus of Human Resource programs. This is because an organization is dependent upon the abilities of their workforce. Human capital can be one of the main differentiating factors between organizations, especially in today's society. Do you think the drive to recruit talented employees should be the main focus of HR departments? Why or why not?
